Cordoncillo Negro, also goes by the names: matico, aperta-ruão, bamboo piper, cordoncillo, erba di soldato, erva-de-jaboti, Santa Maria negro, shiatani, soldaten kraut, soldier’s herb, spiked pepper.
Cordoncillo Negro is a plant made up of the following active chemicals like
- flavonoids
- monoterpenes
- heterocycles
- phenylpropanoids
- alkaloids
and benzenoids. Recently, a group of chemicals known as “chromenes” were discovered in the leaves of the Cordoncillo negro – these substances help to fight cancer cells and bacteria.
Cordoncillo negro has many health benefits and is said to help heal colds and flu due to it’s antibacterial properties.
Cordocillo Negro can also be used in the healing of wounds by chewing the leaves and applying on infected area.
This beautiful herb can also be used to help treat kidney stones, internal bleeding, and digestive issues as well as improve liver health, it can even be used for treating sexually transmitted diseases,

Herbal Preparation
Add 3-4 pieces or 1 dessertspoon of the powder to around 1/2 a litre of spring water ( NOT TAP WATER ) to a stainless steel pan and bring to the boil for 15-20 minutes ( YOU MAY NEED TO ADD MORE WATER ) then allow to cool allowing more infusion of the herb into the water. Once cooled, strain the herb and dispose of it, keep the liquid this will be given to your dog/cat and can be stored in a glass jar in the fridge for around 4 days.
We highly recommend using bone broth alongside your herbal tonics since the herbs can be quite bitter, bone broth’s are a tasty addition to encourage your dog or cat to consume the tonic.
We recommend starting with 50/50 mixture of bone broth to tonic ratio, however you can increase the broth as needed if your dog or cat wont consume it.
